Dry or Green? When to Visit Costa Rica

Costa Rica, like other Central America countries, has its dry season and its wet, or green, season. The dry season runs from December to April and is generally considered to be the best time to visit the country since it is easier to move around the country and see wildlife. The dry season also corresponds with the winter months of the Northern Hemisphere, making it the perfect time to get away.

The downside about with coming during this period is that it is the high season for tourism, meaning that everything will be a little more crowded, reservations will need to be made in advance, CR4and prices will be higher.

From May through November the country is green, meaning rainy! If you don’t mind dealing with the rain (which you will have to no matter what time you come, since afternoon showers are common year round) then you should seriously consider coming to Costa Rica during this time. Not only are you able to get better rates, there are far fewer tourists and the whole country is lush and vibrant!

Showers generally occur each afternoon, which isn’t terrible, but sometimes it can rain for a week on end. Roads in the country can become impassable due to the mud.
