Zipping through trees at a height of over five hundred feet is the only way to see the rain forest. What is a zip line? Well a zip line is essentially a long
metal cable that stretches from one platform to another. Then a harness is hooked around your waist and a handle bar is provided to make the experience more comfortable. As you jump off a platform to travel to the next platform, there is nothing below you but the forest. You will travel distances of 2,500 feet at speeds up to forty miles per hour.
Your experience will most likely go like this. When you first arrive you will meet your guides most of whom speak English.
Your guides spend about five minutes explaining safety procedures and what they call the perfect position. When traveling across a zip line it is very important to keep your knees tight to your chest and your head pulled up. This is what is known as the perfect position. If this is not done it is very likely three quarters of the way through the zip line you will end up getting stuck.
Sorry to tell you no one will be coming to your rescue. You will have to pull yourself the rest of the way to the platform and needless to say this can be very exhausting. Don’t worry though if all this seems a little frightening you can always call for a taxi. This is where a guide will attach himself to you and you will go down the zip line with a guide.
It is important to note though that some lines will have to be done alone. The reason being is that due to weight it causes the line to dip and in some areas this can be very dangerous. Zip liners are not allowed to go together only with a guide. There is a provision for children to go with their parents but due to the nature of this kind of adventure children less than eight years old are not allowed on the zip lines. There is also a weight limit of 217 pounds at this weight the staff will have to analyze if it is safe for the person to travel on the lines according to his or her physical condition.
As you travel through the trees you will of course want some memories of your adventure so make sure to bring your camera along.
It is not safe though for you to try and take pictures as you zip from platform to platform, so you will have to give your camera to a guide. The guides are very experienced at taking pictures and can provide you with some great memories. Just make sure that you bring a wrist strap for your camera that way your memories don’t end up five hundred feet below on the rain forest floor. The tour company itself will also take a picture of you at the end of your trip, but normally these are of bad quality and the guides take better pictures.
