The Brazilians have stolen my heart, as well as my stomach. I love food. Let me rephrase that, all kinds of foods, but especially those that involve meat. Since I’ve been living in Costa Rica, I’ve notice that you can’t find a decent piece of steak. They tend to be thin, flimsy and lack the juice I crave. I am happy to say that I have found a place
where you can find the best red meat there is in Costa Rica.
Fogo Brazil is a Brazilian Churrascaria steak house where you sit and eat, and eat, and eat. At this Churrascaria they roast meats over an open fire for a delicious smokey grilled flavor.
You start with a buffet where you can find all kinds of Brazilian goodies. There are many choices of salads. I never thought I would like cold beef, but one particular salad has thin slices of spicy beef that is delicious. There are also choices of soup, rice, beans and sushi. Yes, that is correct I said sushi. I don’t know why they chose to have a sushi bar. It’s not like Brazilians are known for sushi, but also the sushi was not good! It seems like the sushi was left out all day, and because it was not covered there were flies all over it. When you see the sushi, just keep walking… to your table that is. After all that’s where you will find the highlight of your evening.
How it works; there is a round cardboard stand that has one red side and one green side. Red, like in traffic lights, means stop, which is not my favorite side. The green side lets the server know to keep the meats coming. When your server sees your individual cardboard flipped to green he begins to bring you the meat.
Usually they start with chicken that is wrapped in bacon, some type of sausage or shrimp. They then begin to bring you lamb, veal, sirloin and such. The meat is so juicy and they will not stop bringing different flavors meat, until you flip the cardboard to the red side.
I also like how the servers are dressed. They wear their traditional clothing with wide belts in which they hold their knives for carving the meat. They usually carve the meat in thin slices, which causes you to think you have not eaten much. Do not let these tender pieces trick you into eating more than you can take, and make sure to save some room for dessert.
After you have had your share of meat, the server will bring you the dessert tray. It will be difficult to decide between their traditional Brazilian coconut dessert, strawberry pie, or chocolate mousse layered cake. Funny enough, I really enjoyed the strawberry pie.
Keep in mind that eating at this fun steakhouse is a bit expensive, but if you are craving good steak it may just be well worth it.
Dishes cost between $20 and $25 dollars. Phone number is 506–248–1111.

I have to agree that this is a great restaurant for curing the beef craving. A good steak is hard to find in Costa Rica, but Fogo Brazil has done it. BTW, I think the Chocolate Mouse Layered cake is a better choice than the strawberry pie.
