San Pedro Movie Theater, though being quite large is not any more spectacular than any other movie theater in San Jose. Despite it being one of the largest that
is about all it offers. The theater area itself is quite small; it has limited seating which makes the view experience feel intimate, like watching a movie at home on a very large screen. The seating area is quite clean and obviously well maintained.
As far as snacks it is not possible to get good old fashioned popcorn all that is offered is candy caramel popcorn. They do have great deals on combos; you can get a Soda, candy and popcorn for under six dollars. You can also get certain individual items for under a dollar.
Tickets cost around three dollars which is standard pricing for movie theaters in Costa Rica. The theater has an elevator which makes it easy to get between floors in the movie theater. Many shows are captioned and few are actually dubbed into Spanish, but before purchasing tickets make sure that the movie you are going to see is subtitled in Spanish. This will mean that the audio track should still be in English if that was the original language it was filmed in. All cartoons will be in Spanish and if you don’t know Spanish it is just best to not even try and see a cartoon movie.
The bathrooms are not the cleanest and periodically go out of order or are closed for cleaning. This is quite a hassle if you’re watching a movie on the third floor and have to go to the first floor to go to the bathroom. What happened to me is that when I had to use the restroom the one on my floor was closed and when I arrived at the first floor the bathroom was closed for maintenance so I had to leave the theater and go all the way across the mall to the food court to use the bathroom by the time I got back I could have missed quite a large portion of my movie.
Though it is one of the largest theaters I find that I wouldn’t go back for another movie. I was quite annoyed that for as large as the cinema was they didn’t have more show times, there was a four gap between the first showings of my movie to the second. This was quite annoying since my movie had just been released two days ago. Since I missed the first showing of the movie I now had to wait four hour till the next and since the mall is not quite that impressive I found myself thinking about leaving and going home even though I had already bought my tickets.
There are much better theaters in my opinion but if you’re looking to have a fun experience and you got nothing else to do you can find the San Pedro Cinemas in the San Pedro Mall. The San Pedro Mall is located on La Fuente de la Hispanidad in San Jose Costa Rica.
