Renting a Car in Costa Rica – Tico Style

If you are visiting Costa Rica before you decide to make a move a great way to experience the country is traveling like the locals. This means that you will be spending a lot of time on busses or walking. Fortunately there is another Logo_adobe_002affordable alternative for those who wish to have a more comfortable experience: Adobe rent-a-car.

If you are like me maybe you have never heard of Adobe but they are as trustable as any other rent-a-car company. They offer a wide variety of cars, suvs and vans.  I myself was able to get a Mitsubishi Lancer for fifty dollars a day. The car itself was not in the greatest condition, having many signs of wear but it ran perfectly fine. They offer specials for whole week rentals so make sure to ask what deals they can give you.

One thing that really bothered me is I rented a GPS to get around certain parts of the country that I was unfamiliar with. The GPS from Adobe was the biggest waste of money for this reason: it’s system didn’t work. I found myself driving up a mountain on road that went nowhere though the GPS said I would be arriving to my destination very soon. Needles to say I eventually stopped using the GPS and started asking for directions. I finally arrived to my destination three hours later than it would have taken me if I would have just asked for directions.

Another issue I had is that when I returned the car it was hard to find the rent-a-car location which meant the gas was little under full for returning the car and they made me pay to fill it up. Fortunately it only cost me six dollars but still I was surprised that they were so cheap that they were going to get their six dollars out of me.

I do appreciate though that Adobe did give me a one hour lee way for me to return the car. So basically what happened is I rented the car at ten in the morning and instead of it having to be returned at ten the next morning they allowed me to return it at eleven.

Also I appreciated their variety of locations; they had locations to rent cars that most other companies did not offer. For example they have locations in Ciudad Quesada, Quepos, Limón, Conchal and many others. I love that they will let you rent a car at one location and return it at another for no extra cost as long as they are aware of that at the time of you renting the car.

Though other rent a car companies offer newer b,etter taken care of cars none offer cars to rent at this low of a price. If you are traveling on a budget Adobe is clearly Pura Vida!
