Rancho Tipico Zarcereño, my favorita Soda

If you are Zarcero and you want to eat at the best Soda I have ever been to please stop and visit Rancho Tipico Zarcereño. Located just outside Zarcero on your way to Naranjo on the right hand side is where you can find some wonderful typical Costa Rican food. With many benches to sit at its all wood furnishing and its climate you may find this a perfect place to Casado costa ricastop to eat.

I ordered a dish called Olla de Carne which is a soup that consists of beef and a variety of vegetables with a side of white rice. When I ordered at Rancho Tipico I received what must have been a punch bowl filled with the tenderest beef I have had with the biggest variety of vegetables I have ever eaten in an olla de carne. It had half of a squash, corn, plantains, sweet plantains, two kinds of potatoes, onions and peppers and much more.

I also had a vegetarian casado. Casado’s are a typical meal served with rice, beans and meat. This was the first time I saw a vegetarian casado it was served with rice, beans, guacamole, cheese and some kind of corn dish. Let me preface this with the fact that I hate guacamole I think it is one of the most disgusting dishes ever made. This was the first time I ate an entire dish of guacamole and I found I was sad when it was gone wishing I could have more.

The corn dish which they specialize in was amazing and I haven’t been able to find anywhere else. One thing I didn’t care for was their sweet plantains, the only reason I disliked it was because the plantain were obviously not ready to be cooked, yet they cooked and served them anyway.

I had their beef in salsa casado and as delicious as it was one thing I was very disappointed with was the size of the dish. Their olla de carne was huge probably enough for two people to share. Yet their cassados are extremely delicious, but sadly under sized. I could probably eat two of them on my own. Their pricing is very reasonable and for the type of food they serve I am surprised they don’t charge more. My soup cost around four dollars. Please go, taste and see the delicacies that Costa Rica has to offer.
