Visit the Irazu Volcano outside of San Jose

Close to San Jose is a very accessible and beautiful volcano named Irazú. When planning to travel to Irazú make sure to bring a coat; because of its altitude you may find once you arrive the climate may be colder than what you were expecting. This is what happened to me and unfortunately I had to borrow a coat from someone because the only store located at the topIrazu crater volcano of the volcano did not sell any coats in my size.

Also make sure you eat before going to the top of the volcano. The gift store and restaurant at the summit are overpriced and you can find better products elsewhere. For example they were selling a walking cane for eighty dollars that I was able to find in San Jose for thirty dollars. I

razú is an active volcano and has some very beautiful craters. It is quite an adventure to take a walk around. This volcano has caused many problems due to its past twenty three eruptions the first being recorded in the seventeen hundreds. Upon visiting you may notice what was to me one of the most interesting points: one of the craters in the volcano has become a natural green colored lake.

If you don’t have a car don’t worry visiting Irazú is very easy you can catch busses that regularly run to the peak of the volcano. Saturdays and Sundays they leave from across teh street of the Grand Hotel in San Jose. The express bus leaves at 8 am, and the ride is about an hour and a half long. If you want to go up during the week, you will have to hire a private tour company, or take your own car.

Just make sure you check the weather for the day before you make your trip because you may end up at the top of the Volcano with a thick fog that won’t let you see even two feet in front of your face which means the best view of the volcano you will get is on the front of the tourist pamphlet.
