Cable TV Service and Internet in Costa Rica

For me there is nothing like being able to sit down in front of the TV. with a beer and pizza after a long day of work. In Costa Rica there are a couple of options for cable companies CABLETICA logoand one for satellite. Cable Tica is probably one of the largest and well known throughout the country.

Compared with the United States, Cable Tica they have great pricing and a great choice of channels.  They offer a wide variety of channels from the Disney channel, Discovery channel, History, HBO and Cinimax. This is all under their basic cable service and will cost around thirty dollars.

There is only one problem I have noticed with Cable Tica: most of their TV stations are in Spanish and only around ten to fifteen are broadcast in English. Unlike other service providers who offer English audio tracks when sap is activated on your television all of Cable Tica’s stations are broadcasted in English or Spanish with no choice of alternate audio tracks. This can be very annoying when you want to watch a show on TNT and can only receive it in Spanish.

The pricing for the basic package is around 30 dollars and for an additional charge starting at 3 dollars you can receive certain channels in digital. If you are interested Cable Tica also offers cable internet service with cable television service. With television you can receive 1 MB download with 256 kbps upload speed for around 13 dollars. You can even get up to a 4 MB download speed.  Also it is faster to get Cable internet service started than to get DSL connected. So depending on which you prefer and how long you are willing to wait to receive internet service Cable Tica may be your best choice.

What I disliked most about Cable Tica is periodically their cable service will go out for hours at a time. So their service is not the most reliable but since most homes that you will rent include cable you can’t really complain. In my opinion there are better and cheaper options since there aren’t too many choices throughout the country for cable service if you do a little research you will find the best choice for you.

You can check out cabletica at http://www.cabletica.com/ be warned the entire site is in Spanish and it you may have to click on mapa de sitio in the top left hand corner to even navigate the website. Assuming everything works out you will be able to enjoy my favorite past time and maybe yours as well: the good old boob tube.
