Want to get out for the night and eat out somewhere other than your typical haunts in San Jose? Head east to San Pedro, to La Posada de la Pizza in the Calle Real commercial center.
La Posada de la Pizza, which translates Pizza Inn, not to be confused with Pizza Hut, serves up all your traditional Italian and pizza restaurant favorites: pastas, calzones, salads, and of course, specialty coffees and homemade desserts.
If you are looking for real delicious pizza, then I suggest coming to this place. Toppings include your traditional pepperoni, ham, bacon, mushrooms, pineapple, and olives, but also extend to coconut, fresh tomato, ground beef and salami. There are a number of vegetarin options, including a vegetarian pizza, adorned with a mix of veggies.
The best thing about the pizzas is that you can taste the American in them… they are just different than many other Costa Rican pizza joints. (Now, I’m not talking traditional Mid-West Little Caesar’s pizza, I mean pizza you would get at a gourmet-ish pizza joint.)
Prices run from about ¢1450 ($2.60), for a personal sized pizza, to around ¢9890 ($18) for your larger, family style. Combo options include pizza, salads, and drinks.
Pastas cost from ¢2290 ($4) to ¢3190 ($5) dollars and are made pretty much anyway you want. There are 13 different choices on the menu of spaghetti and short pasta. Meat lasagna is also a favorite of many. Calzones and salads round out your options to please even the most picky of diners.
Make sure you save room for dessert! Muffins, cakes and flan all cost under ¢1300, which is around $2.
The restaurant is run by Mark and Peggy Bloomfield, who are originally from Jamaica and have been living in Costa Rica for over 30 years. La Posada de la Pizza is smaller, but clean and well-run. Delivery, takeout and catering services are all offered.
La Posada de la Pizza is located 400 meters east of the San Pedro Church and is open Tuesday to Friday, 11:30 am to 8:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 am to 5 pm. call 2234–5722 for more information.
