It’s easy to find great local food here in Costa Rica. Finding good, affordable international food is not quite as easy. If you take some time and search however, you will find quite a few hidden jewels.
La Lluna de Valencia is a Mediterranean restaurant famous for their paellas and tapas.
The owners Kati and Vicente first opened this legendary restaurant in Heredia around 14 years ago. In their restaurant you can immerse yourself in the ambiance and feel like you’ve been transported to a small villa in Spain. The air fills with the tempting smells of the different meals being prepared in their open kitchen, where you can observe the art of making paella. Every night Kati and Vicente come out smiling and greet each of the guests and add a personal touch to everyone’s dining experience. The restaurant is open Thursday-Sunday and the rest of the week they cater events either at their restaurant or at other venues. You can also get a group together and take a cooking workshop where they will share their secrets and insights for around $50USD per person. All materials are included and at the end of the workshop friends and family are invited to share in the meals prepared by the participants. Dining at the Lluna the Valencia is truly a worthwhile experience not to be missed.
If you find yourself craving Falafel and you are anywhere near Tamarindo then you’re in luck. Falafel Mundo is a small authentic Middle-Eastern establishment renowned for their large Falafel sandwiches with Hummus amongst other delicious menu items. The restaurant is located on Main Street, next door to Costa Rica Surf Club.
These two restaurants are amongst the best international food available in Costa Rica. Take your time to visit them and you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality and the overall experience offered by these great restaurants.
