Playa Hermosa Costa Rica

Costa Rica is famous for its beautiful beaches, Playa Hermosa Costa Rica is no exception. When planning your vacation to Playa Hermosa it’s important to know that there are two beaches by the name Playa Hermosa. One Playa Hermosa is in Guanacaste, the other is in Puntarenas. They are equal in beauty but the appeal of each one is quite different. Which one should you go to?

Playa Hermosa Guanacaste is a gray-yellow sand beach, perfect for walking, fishing, olive ridley sea turtlebeginner surfing and water skiing. Accommodations are easy to find and there are lots of options ranging in prices and quality. One popular hotel for the locals is Condovac. If you live in Costa Rica you can purchase a time share with them that entitles you to a free week from Friday to Friday per year. Any other time they offer reduced rates to members and nationals. If you live in Costa Rica this is an option definitely worth considering. If you are only visiting then you may want to consider a place like Hotel Villa del Sueño, located right on the beach, which offers standard rooms from $65 USD a night.

Playa Hermosa Puntarenas is a totally different story. The sand is dark gray and the atmosphere is usually quiet and relaxing. Its neighbor Playa Jaco attracts most of the tourist crowd, so Playa Hermosa is great if you just want to lay on the beach and relax with your family. The waves are strong and consistent, not recommended for swimming but great for pro surfers. Another attraction is the Playa Hermosa Wildlife Refuge. Every year between July and December female Olive Ridley turtles come ashore and lay their eggs. They travel in small groups, sometimes alone, so they may be hard to spot. Your best chance is to watch for them at night.

Whichever beach you choose, Playa Hermosa Costa Rica is a great choice, you will not be disappointed.
