Jaco is famous as Costa Rica’s wildest party beach. The beach at Jaco isn’t great for swimming – it’s too rough. The waves are big, and have called to surfers all around the world for years. Nearby Playa Hermosa has some of the best waves in the country for surfing, and a black sand beach. There is now an annual surf tournament at Playa Hermosa. When the surfers are done for the day, the party
begins at night. If you’re looking for young partying surfers and backpackers, foreigners and Costa Ricans coming down from the city, then Jaco is where you want to be. Lots of celebrities choose Jaco as a vacation spot. You never know who you might run in to. Some popular places are the Monkey Bar, Tabacon and The Beattle Bar. These are clubs and bars with live music and dancing.
If you are looking for more upscale entertainment you can head down to Manuel Antonio, Quepos. Just outside the National Reserve you’ll find great restaurants to enjoy cocktails and live music. La Hacienda Restaurant specializes in seafood, Mediterranean dishes and great wines and cocktails to pair with your food. The view is striking and the experience unforgettable. The Bambu Jam is open late and there is live entertainment Tuesdays and Fridays. Everything in the restaurant is made out of beautiful wood which adds to the ambiance. El Gato Negro is an upscale restaurant with a wide variety of entertainment. You can take a dip in their pool, watch the game at the Latino Bar, enjoy dirnks and live entertainment or simply eat their exquisite Mediterranean dishes paired with one of their high quality imported wines on the weekend. Dos Locos is a very popular restaurant with tourist and locals alike. The food is great and there is live entertainment Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you enjoy fishing you can bring your catch to Dos Locos and they will cook it for you.
