Close to San Jose is a very accessible and beautiful volcano named Irazú. When planning to travel to Irazú make sure to bring a coat; because of its altitude you may find once you arrive the climate may be colder than what you were expecting. This is what happened to me and unfortunately I had to borrow a coat from someone because the only store located at the top of the volcano did not sell any coats in my size.
Also make sure you eat before going to the top of the volcano. The gift store and restaurant at the summit are overpriced and you can find better products elsewhere. For example they were selling a walking cane for eighty Read more
If you are visiting Costa Rica before you decide to make a move a great way to experience the country is traveling like the locals. This means that you will be spending a lot of time on busses or walking. Fortunately there is another affordable alternative for those who wish to have a more comfortable experience: Adobe rent-a-car.
If you are like me maybe you have never heard of Adobe but they are as trustable as any other rent-a-car company. They offer a wide variety of cars, suvs and vans. I myself was able to get a Mitsubishi Lancer for fifty dollars a day. The car itself was not in the greatest condition, having many signs of wear Read more
Zarcero is located just outside of Naranjo if you are traveling to Ciudad Quesada. Zarcero has captured the hearts of many people for several reasons; first of all being that the Climate is much cooler than other parts of Costa Rica. When visiting you will want to make sure you have a sweater or a light coat. Its climate is clearly a positive for those who love the country but can’t bear the heat. Due to this, those who have such health issues as Multiple Sclerosis that can worsen with heat may find that Zarcero is not only the place for them to visit but also the place for them to live. Though the climate is much cooler Read more
San Pedro Mall is one of the largest malls in the San Jose area. Though many people feel that this is one of the greatest malls in the area, in my personal opinion I find this not to be true. My feeling is this mall has nothing more to offer than cell phones, video games and clothes. If you are looking for a variety of stores, than this is not the place for you to go. For a four level mall I was surprised that they didn’t have more to offer.
I did find three nice things about the mall first of which is on the fourth floor they have a complete workout center. It has Read more
San Pedro Movie Theater, though being quite large is not any more spectacular than any other movie theater in San Jose. Despite it being one of the largest that is about all it offers. The theater area itself is quite small; it has limited seating which makes the view experience feel intimate, like watching a movie at home on a very large screen. The seating area is quite clean and obviously well maintained.
As far as snacks it is not possible to get good old fashioned popcorn all that is offered is candy caramel popcorn. They do have great deals on combos; you can get a Soda, candy and popcorn for under six dollars. You can also Read more
After I moved to Costa Rica one of the things I missed the most was the abundant supply of Costcos and Sam’s Clubs that we have in the states. In Costa Rica you can find a ton of mom and pop stores and at most of these can find all most everything you want, but what happens when you don’t what to travel to four different stores to go grocery shopping? Or what if there is an item that you just have not been able to find anywhere else.
In San Jose you can find your one stop shop called Price Smart. Just like Costco or Sam’s Club you need a membership to shop there and Read more
If you are moving to Costa Rica you will probably notice that some things are highly overpriced. One big example is electronics. One reason I don’t like buying electronics in Costa Rica in they don’t really have any warranties. So, like me, you may want to bring your electronics with you.
When doing this you need to be very careful. Many people bring electronics into the country with the intention of selling them. This is illegal, unless of course you have an import/export business. The purpose of this article is to help you when bringing your things to Costa Rica to use in your home.
Before leaving your country of origin the first thing Read more
As airports go, San Jose international (SJO) is one of the best that I have ever had the pleasure of flying in and out of. Though a rather small airport in comparison with other travel destinations, it is very well maintained. The bathrooms are very clean and well kempt as routine cleaning is done regularly. As far as food goes, don’t expect the dozens of choices you would find at most larger airports but it is modestly equipped with a Burger King, Church’s Chicken, Papa John’s Pizza and a small salad and sandwich shop. As is normal with most airport food, expect to pay extra for the “convenience” of having options within the airport. If you do decide to Read more
The Brazilians have stolen my heart, as well as my stomach. I love food. Let me rephrase that, all kinds of foods, but especially those that involve meat. Since I’ve been living in Costa Rica, I’ve notice that you can’t find a decent piece of steak. They tend to be thin, flimsy and lack the juice I crave. I am happy to say that I have found a place where you can find the best red meat there is in Costa Rica.
Fogo Brazil is a Brazilian Churrascaria steak house where you sit and eat, and eat, and eat. At this Churrascaria they roast meats over an open fire for a delicious smokey grilled flavor. Read more
